Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is the gold standard and a very safe method for reducing uncomplicated spider veins and slightly larger bluish-green veins on the legs. Sclerotherapy is not meant to treat painful, large varicose veins. During your consultation, Dr. Jenna Queller will assess your veins and determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure. Using a very fine needle, sclerotherapy involves the injection of a prescription medication into the offending vein which causes the vein walls to collapse. The treated vein disappears over the course of 1-2 weeks. Some veins may require more than one treatment session. During each treatment, your unwanted veins are identified and a sclerosing agent called Asclera is injected into one or more vessels. Asclera damages blood vessels walls, and this causes platelets to attach causing the vessels to shrink down and it eventually is absorbed by your body. Because we have many redundant veins in the skin, eliminating a few is not a problem. Following your procedure, it is recommended that you wear compression stockings, which help collapse down vessels further. Although some vessels may disappear immediately, others may continue to shrink down and disappear over the following weeks. As stated above, more than several sessions four weeks apart are recommended for the best results.
